Breast Reduction in Montreal

Breast reduction aims to decrease the volume of the breasts while simultaneously providing a lift. Large breasts are often associated with pain in the neck, back, and shoulders, skin irritations, and overall discomfort. In addition to reducing breast weight, this intervention also achieves a more youthful and toned appearance of the breasts.

Benefits of breast reduction

  1. Relief from physical pain: By reducing breast volume, breast reduction can alleviate chronic pain in the back, shoulders, and neck associated with a heavy bust.
  2. Improved quality of life: By restoring a more proportionate and balanced bust, many women experience a significant improvement in their quality of life and overall well-being.
  3. Enhanced self-confidence: A smaller and more proportionate bust can also boost patients’ self-confidence and self-esteem, helping them feel more comfortable in their own bodies.
  4. Better clothing comfort: After breast reduction, many women find it easier to find well-fitting and flattering clothes, which can also enhance their personal satisfaction.

Result of breast reduction

A smaller and lifted breast is achieved, with a reduced and centered areola. Predictable scars are located around the areola, vertically beneath it, and horizontally in the fold beneath the breast.

Step 2 – Meeting with Dr. Gaudreau:

The meeting with Dr. Gaudreau, one of the best breast reduction surgeons in Montreal, will begin with a brief period of questions to understand the nature of the desired care. A physical examination will then take place, accompanied by explanations and suggestions for appropriate treatments. You will then have the opportunity to ask and obtain answers to all your questions.

Step 3 – Surgery Planning:

Once your meeting with Dr. Gaudreau is complete, the costs of the surgery will be provided by Dr. Gaudreau’s assistant. She will explain the possible payment methods and may offer you a surgery date if you wish. Once you have confirmed the date of your surgery, you will receive an information packet containing pre and postoperative advice.

Step 4 – Surgery:

The day before the surgery, you will receive a call from the surgery center to know the time and place where you should present yourself the next day. On the day of your surgery, you must fast from midnight the day before. You will then be guided to the pre-surgery waiting room. You will then see Dr. Gaudreau who will likely draw on you and summarize previous discussions to confirm the desired surgery. You will then be directed to the operating room where you will meet the team for anesthesia and surgery.

Step 5 – Follow-up:

You will receive a call the day after the surgery to check that the progress is favorable. You will see Dr. Gaudreau for your first follow-up visit 3 to 7 days after the surgery. Your dressings will then be removed, and showering may be allowed. Subsequent visits will be scheduled on a weekly or monthly basis and as needed thereafter.

FAQ on Breast Reduction in Montreal

Can I still breastfeed after a breast reduction?

Since the technique used by Dr. Gaudreau does not detach the nipple from the breast, it remains continuous with the mammary gland. Therefore, it is theoretically possible to breastfeed after breast reduction. However, since the residual breast tissue is less abundant, and since any breast surgery can affect lactation, it is not possible to predict with certainty the success of breastfeeding following breast reduction.

Is it possible to undergo this surgery while being a smoker?

No, Dr. Gaudreau will not perform surgery if you smoke. The negative impact of smoking on wound healing is too significant. A minimum of 6 weeks without nicotine is necessary before being eligible for any elective surgery.
